Technical Assistance for Students

 

The Information Technology (IT) Department provides limited technical assistance to students. Problems concerning telephones, cable TV and the internet in resident halls will be fixed by the IT Department.

Frequently asked questions:

Does the IT Department fix student computers?
Due to liability reasons the IT Department does not work on personal computers or laptops that belong to students. However, the IT Department will provide assistance by answering any question you may have pertaining to your computer and computer equipment.

Does the IT Department provide software to students (MS Office, Windows, Antivirus)?
The IT Department currently does not provide software to students. Any software that is needed will need to be purchased by the student.

Will the IT Department install software on my computer?
The IT Department does not install software for students. However, we will provide assistance if needed.

Does the IT Department install hardware on student owned computers?
The IT Department does not install hardware for student.

Where can I purchase antivirus software?
Antivirus software can be purchases from stores like Office Max, Wal-mart, K-mart and other stores that sell computer equipment and software.

Does the IT Department provide network cables to students?
Network cables have been purchased for students to use while they are students of the University. Network cables can be obtained from residential life or from your resident manager.

Can I access wireless in my dorm room?
Wireless access is available in the resident halls.

Where can I access wireless?
Wireless is now available campus wide.

How do I change my password?
Log onto a computer using your username and password. Press and hold down Ctrl + Alt + Del. When the Windows Security box appears click the Change Password button. Follow the steps on the screen. Remember passwords should be complex and at least 8 characters long.  Please see the Password guidlines for more help.
