Dr. Greg Turner
Dr. Turner has been teaching college courses for 20+ years. He is originally from Mullins, SC. He received his undergraduate degree from the college of Charleston, MBA from Winthrop University, and his DBA from Mississippi State University.
Dr. Turner does not think of teaching as a “job” in which you drudge day after day, simply waiting for the end of the day. Instead it is great fun, granted it is also hard work, but definitely great fun. Maybe it is because he always knew this is what he wanted to do, but to him it is trying new approaches and continuously revising in order to find the best way to guide the students. It is constant re-thinking what he knows, learning new material, and adjustment of both the content and presentation, searching for a more effective way to challenge his students to achieve their full potential, to encourage them to thoroughly learn fundamental concepts, and to develop their skills. There is no description of the satisfaction or reward that he receives from the look of understanding and confidence that a student displays when they have mastered a concept.
For Dr. Turner, teaching is still full of self doubt. And this self doubt motivates him to be fully prepared and to be the best that he can be. He also strongly believes that to become and remain an effective teacher it is imperative that to stay abreast of research in the field. In order to do this he believes that a teacher has to be involved in applied and basic research efforts. Personally, he finds that he is better prepared to offer relevant examples of the course contents as a result of his research efforts.
