Meet Monae

Where are you from?

Brooklyn, NY

What do you enjoy most about working in CU's Office of Admissions?

Working in the Office of Admissions is a very rewarding experience. As a first generation college graduate (Proud alum of Claflin University), I can relate to the anxiety and excitement of students and even the parents. It is important to me that the transition into Claflin University be smooth and comfortable for both parents and students. My job is not complete once the student has arrived. I enjoy being a counselor and mentor to the student throughout his or her matriculation here.

Do you have a favorite spot on campus?

Yes I do. My favorite spot on campus would have to be in front of Tingley Memorial Hall. On the ground are bricks engraved with the names/and or organizations that have made generous monetary contributions to the University. One day my name will be there.

What's the best tradition or campus event at Claflin University?

The Parting Ceremony

Any favorite restaurants or hangouts in Orangeburg?

Edisto Gardens is definitely my favorite place in Orangeburg. I often do my daily runs there or sometimes walk just to enjoy the beautiful flowers. It a place filled with peace and tranquility.

Music I Love

I can appreciate all types and genres, but my all-time favorites would have to be old school reggae and jazz.

Educational Background

Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Justice Studies from Claflin University
