The money was raised from a $10,000 reverse raffle that took place during the Convention, which was held April 12-15. CSRA Alumni Chapter President Dr. Willie Frazier, ’75, noted the chapter has conducted a raffle for the past three years and has donated the $30,000 in proceeds back to the University.
This year, Bessie H. Byrd, ’72, and Lonnie Randolph, the executive director of the NAACP for South Carolina, won the drawing and split the $10,000 prize.
“We plan to continue it on an annual basis,” said Frazier. “Believe or not, we sold tickets for raffle from the East to the West Coast.”
Frazier noted the Convention was very uplifting from the start to finish. The theme for this year’s Convention was “Claflin’s Visionaries Mastering the Future.”
