Claflin University and the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association will present Handel's Messiah on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Stevenson Auditorium. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
“We are absolutely thrilled to present the Messiah to the Orangeburg community again,” said Dr. Isaiah McGee, director of the University Concert Choir. “It is a great way to usher in the holiday season and we enjoy presenting new interpretations and highlighting the students' vocal talents each year.”
This year the Concert Choir will be accompanied by members from First Presbyterian Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Union Baptist Church and Williams Chapel AME Church.
In addition, the Columbia High School Concert Choir under the direction of Jennifer L. Davis, ’07, will perform two selections during the program. Also joining the Concert Choir will be special guest Ann Rodgers Chandler of Lake City, SC on the harpsichord.
“The Messiah performance has become a Christmas tradition here at Claflin,” said President Henry N. Tisdale. “It is truly wonderful to be able to partner with DORA and local churches to present Handel’s Messiah to community members who have meant so much to the success of the choir and this university over the years.”
Stevenson Auditorium is located at 979 Middleton Street in Orangeburg. For more information on the concert, please contact Mrs. Tracie Tisdale by phone at (803) 535-5193 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
