Drexel B. Ball has been named chairman of the board of directors of the Orangeburg Chamber of Commerce for a one-year term that began on Nov. 16. He also serves as vice president for administration at Claflin University.
“I am honored to be elected for the position,” Ball said. “It is an awesome responsibility because of the many Chamber activities that are designed to strengthen financial stability in the business community and bring regional and national awareness to all the good things that are happening in Orangeburg.”
Ball has been a member of the Chamber since 2009 and most recently served as Vice President of Membership.
Ball came to Claflin in 2008 and has been a senior administrator in higher education for nearly two decades. He served as executive assistant to the president at Delaware State University from 1990 to 2006.
He is a native of McClellanville, S. C. and attended the public schools in Charleston, S. C., where he graduated from Charles A. Brown High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in 1972 and his master’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University, where he served as assistant director of public relations from 1982 to 1989.
Ball is married to the former Brenda D. Petty and they are the parents of a son, Tyler.
