Claflin University Students Win at SCSTA Festival Competition

Claflin University speech and theater students were among those from 10 colleges and universities statewide to gather at Newberry College for the South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association annual festival competition on February 1.

Three Claflin students were recognized for their outstanding work. Rebecca Daniel came in first place in Solo Musical Theatre, Saraiya Kalu came in first place for Impromptu Speaking and Jerylyn Gamble placed second in Impromptu Speaking. 

Also participating at the event were students from Greenville Technical College, Erskine College, Lander University, Limestone College, Midlands Technical College, Newberry College, Tri-County Technical College, the University of South Carolina Lancaster and the University of South Carolina Upstate. Categories included Solo Musical Theatre, Duet Musical Theatre, Audition Monologues, Duet Acting, Theatrical Design, Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Prose Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation and Storytelling.

The next SCSTA College Festival Competition is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Newberry College.
