Claflin University staff and students participated in the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day on Friday, February 28, 2014, at several Orangeburg County locations.
Approximately 20 members of the Claflin family read to some 350 students at Dover Elementary School in North, and at Rivelon Elementary School, Marshall and the main branch of the Orangeburg County Library in Orangeburg. The books read were related to the Orangeburg County Community of Character Trait of the Month, which was honesty; a Dr. Seuss book, and/or books from the classroom libraries.
NEA’s Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2 – or the day closest to March 2 – Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Thousands of schools, libraries and community centers nationwide participate by bringing together kids, teens and books.
