U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn, the man President Barack Obama says is among a handful of people who commands attention from the entireCongress, will deliver the keynote address at the 2013 Claflin University Commencement Convocation on Saturday, May 11.

The annual Claflin University International Alumni Association Convention received an energizing start after First Citizens Bank announced their contribution of $200,000 to the University’s $96.4 million capital campaign.

A diverse musical group that President Barack Obama said was “energizing” and “really knows how to get a crowd going” will headline the fourth edition of CALA-Bash (Claflin’s Arts and Letters Annual Bash), which takes place April 8-14.

Claflin University alumni internationally will assemble in Columbia April 4-7 for the 39th Annual Claflin University International Alumni Association (CUIAA) Convention. Kevin Marsh, chairman and CEO of SCANA Corporation, will deliver the opening keynote address at the annual Corporate, Community and Friends Breakfast on Friday, April 5 at 8 a.m.

Claflin University President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale and First Lady Alice Carson Tisdale today announced their gift of $250,000 to the University. The couple presented a check during an event held on the Claflin campus. The gift will fund an endowed professorship in the sciences and provide support for other academic programs and scholarships, including athletics.
