Welcome to the Department of Humanities!
The Department of Humanities offers majors and minors in African and African American Studies, History, Philosophy, Religion, and Spanish. We also offer a major in Integrated Studies, which allows students to combine their interests with different topics and disciplines. Additionally, our Department oversees the Pre-Law program, which provides students with resources to prepare for law school.
Students in the Department of Humanities consistently land gainful employment in a variety of vocations and many pursue graduate degrees to become leaders in the fields of law, education, historical research, non-profit and governmental service industries, international programs, and ministry.
We have many opportunities for students to fund their education through scholarships. We also support student learning and research and assist students with successful fellowship applications (including UNCF Mellon Mays Fellows, Ronald McNair Scholars, Library of Congress Fellows, and Mellon Humanities Hub Fellows).
Graduates of programs in the Department of Humanities are well prepared for the job market and graduate school. Our students have been accepted into top-tier master’s and doctoral programs, including Duke University, Emory University, Harvard University, North Carolina Central University, Rutgers University, University of Chicago, University of Houston, and University of South Carolina.
