Dr. Douglas T. Root

Research interests: His focus as a graduate student was 18th century British Literature, specifically Samuel Johnson and his relationship with the French Writers of the era.

Since then Dr. Root has branched out more and has had book chapters published on Ben Franklin and William Blake. His most recent book, An Investigation of the Seventeenth- to Nineteenth-Century Puritan Vernacular Tradition: To Please God or to Not Please God, was published in July 2020.  It examines the vernacular that he believes was unique to Puritan writing when referencing God and His involvement in their everyday lives. Dr. Root is currently working on a book that describes the performative aspect of storytelling in professional wrestling.
