Poll via Fizz social app
Claflin University Dining Center, commonly known as the cafe, is the place where most students congregate to grab a bite to eat with fellow classmates during their break time for lunch or after classes for dinner.
Students stated their opinion about their cafe experience with a poll on the social app Fizz.
Based on the poll, 42% of Claflin students feel their cafe experience was average. Whereas 35% of students said their experience at the cafe was very poor.
Some Claflin students rated their cafe experience as prettydecent so far,
Samara G., a freshman, said the food quality is good. “It’s pretty decent so far and the food is pretty good quality.”
JeNia H., a freshman, rated her cafe experience an 8/10 but said a better variety of options is needed. “I give it an 8/10. The sub station could be faster and I am tired of fried chicken Wednesday.”
Other students gave their critiques with opinions about their personal experiences with the cafe.
A junior who wanted to remain anonymous rated her cafe experience a six out of 10, citing a lack of food options to accommodate different diets.
The junior said, “If I had it, I would give it a six out of 10, maybe a five because it’s really hard to accommodate different diets and I have a hard time finding stuff that fits my needs.”
The junior said there is a lack of healthier options for students.
“Absolutely, there’s so many different diets that are not satisfied by what we have in the cafeteria. There’s not enough white protein. There’s no whole wheat pasta. There’s some brown rice but usually it’s white rice and red meat, none of which I eat and all the desserts have a lot of sugar. I would love to have some sugar-free desserts.”
Layla DeCosta, a junior, rated her cafe experience a six out of 10, citing a lack of appetizing options.
DeCosta said, “I feel like the options are sometimes subpar. … I eat at the cafe every day three times all meals, so sometimes it’s very frustrating when I go into the cafe and the options do not look appetizing or they don’t look appealing.”
DeCosta said they do not consider options for those with dietary needs.
“I know sometimes they try to do their best but also sometimes the options might have pork in them and I can’t eat pork,” DeCosta said. “Some of the cafe workers are really nice and I appreciate them. I would just like for them to get some more consistency with their food.”
