Claflin University kicked off homecoming by uplifting the name of the Lord.
On Nov. 14, the first homecoming event was “Crocs N Christ.” The worship service took place at the James and Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel at 11 a.m. Musical selections came from Claflin University’s D.R.E.A.M. Gospel Choir and other student vocalists.
Desimond S. Antley, speaker for event, delivered an electrifying message. His sermon topic came from Judges 6 11-16. He left the congregation with important jewels such as “You are stronger than you think.”
Crocs N Christ replaced the normal homecoming concert hosted by D.R.E.A.M Gospel choir.
The service was a kickoff to a homecoming week being much anticipated by students.
Graduating senior Malachi Wright said, “I want this last homecoming to be something that I can remember and take with me as I graduate.”
“I felt that worship service went pretty well and the word that was given changed a lot of people’s mindsets,” Wright said. “Even though we didn’t have our usual gospel explosion, this was definitely something that was different and very enjoyable.”
Freshman Derrion Campbell said, “I was excited about the D.R.E.A.M. concert for homecoming. However, I mean I did enjoy the Crocs N Christ worship service, but it was different from the concert.
“I’m excited to experience my first homecoming, I’m expecting to just have and take a moment to breathe and, of course, I still have assignments to do, but just to relax and have fun.”
