South Carolina State University now requires identification to enter the campus.
SC State announced that effective April 17, a university-issued identification must be shown at the gate by both students and employees.
“Anyone who cannot locate his or her university-issued ID card should obtain at new card at the OneCard office in the University Computer and Information Technology Services complex in the Crawford-Zimmerman Building. A vehicle parking decal is not sufficient for entry,” the university said in a press release.
Visitors must display a driver’s license or other government-issued identification.
Students appear to support the policy.
Stanley Cheeseboro, a junior at SC State, said, “People who do not belong on campus should not be permitted to be on campus. People get on campus that maybe shouldn’t be there and stuff like that, which can cause some problems.
“I think the policy’s good. It's not, you know, too much. They’re just saying have your ID (to) show you go here. I feel like that’s fair.”
I’Yawni Jones said, “They’re doing it to make sure we have a better community within the school. You know on campus a lot of people from South Carolina State are not from South Carolina, they are from other cities and states, so basically they’re doing that to keep us safe and sound.”
