Claflin University’s Student Government Association president earned national recognition after she was named the 2026 Outstanding Student Leader by the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals during its 72nd Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The award was given Feb. 17 at the conference’s award ceremony. Many student leaders as well as college officials gathered to celebrate leadership and evolution. The award acknowledges extraordinary leadership, campus influence and dedication to the student body.
“I am grateful to represent Claflin University on a national stage,” said Kamille Whaley, the SGA president. “It is an honor to receive this award for the same dedication that I give to Claflin University.”
Claflin officials said the recognition reflects the university’s continued legacy with developing phenomenal student leaders.
Dr. Arthur Doctor, dean of students, said, “We are extremely proud of Kamille’s recognition as the 2026 NASAP Outstanding Student Leader Award. It is indicative of our passion and commitment to her peers, as well as confirmation that Claflin continues to develop transformational leaders.”
During the 2025-26 academic year, Whaley collaborated with other student organizations and led student-engagement initiatives. These include town halls, social media campaigns, as well as community service.
Other Claflin officials attending the NASAP conference said this was a victorious moment for the university.
“This recognition represents a great moment for Claflin University. Pouring into our students remains our top priority; this award is a testament to the phenomenal leaders that emerge from Claflin University.” said Dr. Denver Malcom Key, assistant vice president for student development.
The NASAP conference brought other HBCU student leaders and higher education professionals together for workshops, educational sessions, as well as networking sessions centered on leadership development in higher education.
