Intramurals

All students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to enjoy any sport that is offered through the Intramural Sports program. These sports not only offer competition, but also provide a great outlet to meet new people and become involved with the CU community.

CU community may register for league play through IMLeagues. Members should use their email to log in for access

Sports Clubs

A sport club is defined as a registered student organization which exists to promote and develop interest in a particular sport or physical activity. These interests can be competitive, recreational, or instructional in nature. Clubs may represent the university in intercollegiate competition or conduct intra-club activities such as practice, instruction, social and tournament play. Sport clubs are student initiated and student managed. Involvement in a sport club enhances the students' college experience and contributes to the students' overall education.

SPIRIT of PLAY

In sports, winning and losing are mere outcomes. What is part of the game is the pure satisfaction of participation, getting fit and enhancing friendships. Without your opponent, there is no game, no contest, no memories, and no fun. You are indebted to them as they are to you. The spirit of play is then based on cooperation. Upholding high standards of integrity and fair play acknowledges this idea of cooperative competition. All players are encouraged to use their best judgment in caring for the safety of others as well as themselves. The ultimate goal of the players means more than win or lose. All players are asked to participate within the context of this SPIRIT of PLAY.

    • Be familiar with all rules and see that his/her team is aware of these rules.
    • Make an effort to ensure his/her team members play according to the rules of the game and conduct themselves appropriately.
    • Keep in touch with the Intramural Sports staff for pertinent Intramural Sports information.
    • Check to make sure all players are on the roster prior to their last regular season game and make sure every player has played at least one regular season game in order to be eligible for post-season events.
  • WHAT ARE SPORTSMANSHIP RATINGS?

Sportsmanship rating will be given to teams after each contest by the Intramural Sports Staff and/or officials. These ratings reflect behavior before, during, and after the contest. These ratings will determine playoff eligibility and continuation of play during the season.

  • WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PLAYOFFS?
    • All teams are eligible for playoffs as long as they have participated in regular season.
    • Players must be on the roster sheet on IMLeagues and have played in at least one regular season game prior to the playoffs to be eligible for playoff competition.
    • Teams are required to have a positive sportsmanship rating to be eligible for the playoffs.
  • WHAT IS A FORFEIT?

A forfeit is an automatic loss, determined by factors other than game play.  Teams will be removed from the league after 2 forfeitures.

A forfeit will be assessed for the following reasons:

    •  A team failing to show up at the appointed playing site, at the scheduled time, or did not notify the Intramural Office 24-hours in advance.
    • Teams/player(s) guilty of poor sportsmanship behavior and conduct which cause the game to be discontinued.
    • Use of ineligible players (the ineligible person will be suspended from participation on any team in that activity)
  • WHAT IS A DEFAULT?

A default is a way of alleviating a forfeit.  Three defaults by the same team in one season will result in the removal from the scheduled league.

Teams will receive a default if they:

    • Show up on time, but fail to have sufficient number of players to make it an official game.
    • Notify the intramural office in advance that they cannot make a scheduled game.  If no notification has been received, the scheduled game is a forfeit.
    • If, during the play of a game, a team (regardless if the team is winning or losing) falls below the minimum amount of players needed to continue (due to injuries, etc).
    • Teams with insufficient rosters or ineligible players.
  • ARE THERE POSTPONEMENTS OR RAINOUTS?

As a general rule, games will be played rain or shine. Only in the case of unsafe playing conditions (i.e. lightning, heavy snowfall, large amounts of standing water, extremely cold weather) will games be postponed and/or cancelled.

Intramurals will generally play scheduled games UNLESS the Intramural Office specifically states they have been postponed or cancelled. We recommend that you enter your cell phone number in IMLeagues so that we may text you if games are cancelled.

  • ARE THERE UNIFORM OR ATTIRE REQUIREMENTS?
There are attire requirements for certain sports. Please check the rules for the sport you are playing.  In basketball and flag football, a team must wear matching colors with numbers. If a team does not have shirts with numbers, scrimmage jerseys will be available.
  • DO I NEED MY CU ID CARD?
Yes. Any participant who does not have a CU ID Card will not be allowed to play.
  • I WAS EJECTED FROM AN INTRAMURAL SPORTS GAME. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
All ejected players must meet with the Director of Wellness and Intramural Sports before he or she is permitted to participate in future Intramural Sports contests. Ejected players are prohibited from participating in any Intramural Sports contests until they have had their reinstatement meeting.

Become an Official

Officiating is a great way to get involved at CU. HWC uses student officials for Intramural Sports. We provide training, coaching, evaluation and support of our staff.

Officials should have strong interpersonal skills, patience, knowledge of the game, and strong communication skills. They should possess mental skills such as attention, concentration, composure and decision-making skills. These skills will be further developed during training, scrimmages and games.

Players are encouraged to become officials. Officials are allowed to play on teams in the same sport they officiate. They may not referee any contest which includes their team.

If you are interested in becoming an official, contact us.
