Senior Bria R. Spivey was crowned this year’s Miss Claflin University during an elaborate coronation ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 24, in the W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center’s Moss Auditorium at the University.
Spivey’s coronation theme was “Cirque du Bria” – inspired by the famous multi-faceted entertainment company Cirque du Soleil – as a celebration of the new Miss Claflin’s creative mind and colorful spirit. The evening featured an array of artistic performances.
“It is such a great honor to have been selected to be Miss Claflin 2013-2014, and my coronation was my way of showing the Claflin community how much I appreciate this honor,” Spivey said. “‘Cirque Du Bria’ was a night not to be forgotten.”
Spivey, daughter of Donna Edmonds and Kevin Spivey Sr. and a native of Philadelphia, Penn., is a member of the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College and Gamma Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., where she has served as chaplain. Other campus organizations she has been a part of include the Mass Communications Society and the WCUT campus television station.
Spivey’s platform is “Men of the Future, Building Better Boys.” As Miss Claflin, she will serve as a liaison between the University’s administration, Student Government Association and the student body. The mass communications major and theater minor said her dream is to become a playwright.
