Annual Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Claflin’s FOCUS 100
Nov 14, 2013
Friday, Nov. 8, was a perfect day for golfing and raising money for Claflin University.
The University hosted its eighth annual Golf Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club in Blythewood to benefit Claflin’s FOCUS 100 Scholarship Fund for students. The tournament netted nearly $27,000 for the fund. Plumb Krazy Plumbing of Lexington served as the event’s title sponsor for the second consecutive year.
Special guest at this year’s tournament was former NBA star and Columbia native Alex English, who kicked off the event by thanking the golfers for their attendance and support of Claflin University students.
Robert Kirton and David Outed won the tournament with a score of 65. They were among the 88 golfers participating in this year’s event.
Following the tournament, golfers were treated to a catered awards luncheon sponsored by Outback Steakhouse, and Golf Classic co-chairs and Claflin Board of Trustees members Paul Fant of SCANA Corporation and James Bennett of First Citizens Bank presented awards to the first-, second- and third-place two-man teams. Awards were also issued for the longest drive and closest to the pin.
Claflin President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale was on hand to offer his appreciation to all of the sponsors and golfers who helped make this year’s Golf Classic a huge success.
Claflin’s FOCUS 100 Scholarship Fund provides assistance to those students who might otherwise be forced to forfeit attending school because of short-term financial hardships. To donate to the FOCUS 100 Scholarship Fund, contact Leandra Hayes at 803-535-5238 or email lhayes@claflin.edu.
