Nov 04, 2014
Senior music major Lia Holman was crowned the new Miss Claflin University during a ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014, in W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center.
The theme of her coronation was “An Evening on Broadway,” which was inspired by Holman’s passion for music and her platform MENTOR – Music Empowerment Now To Overcome Roadblocks. The coronation featured an array of performances by some of Claflin’s most talented students, including a tribute to Motown. Students transformed into The Temptations, The Supremes and Michael Jackson, followed by a riveting performance by Holman.
“I wanted the coronation to showcase the wealth of talent we have on campus at Claflin University,” Holman said. “I am so humbled and honored to have been chosen to represent this prestigious institution. This position is one that I have been aiming for since my freshmen year, and to see it come to fruition is such a tremendous blessing.”
A private reception was held following the coronation in celebration of Holman’s crowning.
Holman is the daughter of Lonnie and Lisa Holman of Spartanburg, S.C. She is a member of the Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Claflin University Concert Choir.
As Miss Claflin University, Holman will serve as a liaison between the University’s administration, Student Government Association and the student body. She will also use the title to help youth through MENTOR. Her dream is to become a Grammy Award-winning singer.
