Former Claflin Women’s Volleyball Standout Courtney Person Named 2016 Rappaport Fellow

Former Claflin University volleyball standout Courtney Person has been selected as a 2016 Rappaport Fellow in Law and Public Policy as announced by the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy at Boston College Law School . Person, who hails from Columbia, S.C., is a rising second year student at the New England School of Law in Boston, Mass.
Courtney is one of 12 recipients of the Fellows.
Courtney earned her degree in Politics and Justice Studies and minored in Psychology and English in 2015 from Claflin. While at Claflin, she tutored at-risk high school students, captained the Women's Volleyball team, and was involved in a number of student organizations. Prior to starting law school, she interned at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia, SC. Courtney will be working this summer (2016) at the Office of the Attorney General in the Policy and Government Division.
“This year’s 2016 Rappaport Fellows are an extraordinary group of law students who exude passion and commitment to bettering communities, the environment, education, access to justice, women’s rights, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and the world,” Rappaport Center Executive Director Elisabeth J. Medvedow said in a release from the Boston College Law School. “The Rappaport Fellowship affords them opportunities to gain hands-on experience in government, benefit from mentors, and learn how law and public policy are used to effect change for the social good.”
The Rappaport Fellows Program provides selected law school students from Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, Northeastern, New England, Suffolk, and the UMass with opportunities to experience the complexities and rewards of public policy work and public service at the highest levels of state and local government. The program includes coveted summer internships, during which students work with top policy makers and are mentored both by the Center’s Advisory Board and respected civic leaders in the field.
