Claflin University’s New Title IX Policy on Pregnancy
Sep 01, 2016
Claflin University announces a new Title IX policy which contains applicable provisions to pregnant and parenting students, effective the start of the 2016 Fall Semester. This policy is in compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 which states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” The new policy is available on the University’s website under the Claflin Policies & Procedures page.
Claflin’s new Title IX policy ensures support for pregnant and parenting students; addresses academic and extracurricular accommodations; and provides details regarding the availability of campus residential facilities. The policy previously listed in the 2015-2016 Residential Life Handbook has been rescinded.
Claflin adopted the Title IX Policy regarding Sexual Misconduct and Harassment in August 2014. A brochure “Sexual Misconduct and Harassment” was also developed in August 2014. The brochure and the Title IX Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Policy are available online at www.claflin.edu on the Campus Resources page.
