The Reverend Todd A. Brown, pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Orangeburg, S.C., will be the keynote speaker. Prior to moving to Orangeburg he served as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Chesterbrook in McLean, Va.
Brown is a founding member and former Education Coordinator for the Northern Virginia Clergy Council for the prevention of HIV and AIDS. He also served as Director of Education for the Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry and Community Health Specialist with the Fairfax County Health Department. The West Chester, PA, native graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in 1999 and the Howard University School of Divinity in 2003.
The UNCF is the nation's largest minority education organization that provides financial assistance to minority students who attend one of the UNCF’s 37 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The organization provides operating funds, scholarships, internships, and professional training for faculty and administrators. The UNCF recently announced that the Lilly Endowment has committed $50 million to launch the UNCF Career Pathways Initiative. Through this initiative, UNCF will award competitive grants to four-year HBCUs and predominantly black institutions (PBIs) to help students gain the knowledge, preparation, insight and skills needed for meaningful employment in a technology-driven, global economy.
