Claflin to Honor BB&T State President Michael R. Brenan at Annual Leadership Giving Luncheon

Michael R. Brenan, the State/Group President of BB&T for South Carolina, will be honored at Claflin University’s Annual Leadership Giving Luncheon on Friday, November 18, at noon in Ministers' Hall. The purpose of the luncheon is to thank donors who have made gifts to the University at the leadership level of $1,000 and above. Leadership gifts contributed more than $2 million to Claflin's Imagine the Possibilities Capital Campaign which raised more than $105 million.

Brenan, a member of the Claflin University Board of Trustees, serves on the SC Board of Education as the Governor's Appointee. He began his career in banking in 1975 as a management trainee. In 1988, he became the president and chief executive officer of Bank One, Portsmouth, N.A. In 1994, Brenan became chairman, president and chief executive officer of MainStreet Financial Corporation, a multi-bank holding company, headquartered in Virginia. In 1998 MainStreet was acquired by BB&T Corporation and Brenan subsequently moved to Columbia to assume his responsibilities with BB&T.

Brenan earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Bowling Green State University.
