Hurricane Florence Update #5 – September 12, 2018

Claflin University remains closed until further notice.
The National Weather Center continues to predict that Hurricane Florence will impact South Carolina. Tropical storm conditions are possible in Orangeburg beginning Thursday, September 13.
Currently, the University Dining Center is operating from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for brunch and from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for dinner. Late night dining is hosted from 10 p.m. until 12 midnight.
Claflin University has partnered with South Carolina State University to provide shelter in the Smith Hammond Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of South Carolina State University for students who were unable to leave campus. When directed, it will be mandatory for those students to relocate to the shelter in University-provided transportation. No student will be allowed to remain in the residence halls. Meals will be provided at the shelter. Note: Students should be prepared to move over to South Carolina State University on Thursday, September 13 at 2 p.m.
Claflin University Residential Life Coordinators will be on-hand to answer questions in case of emergencies. If you have any questions regarding residential life, please call (803) 535-5651.
On-campus parking: Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to move their vehicles from parking lots #8 and #11 (Goff Avenue), #9 (Behind Men's High-Rise), and #10 (Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Education Center) to parking lots #4 (behind Asbury Hall) and #5 (behind H.V. Manning Library) until the threat of Hurricane Florence has passed. Please move your cars to parking lots #4 and #5 by Wednesday, September 12 at 5 p.m.
Updates will be sent by email, posted on social media, and sent through the emergency text messaging service (Regroup.com) to alert the campus family of when the University will reopen and when classes will resume. You may also follow local media reports.
