Claflin to Host Annual UNCF Community Luncheon

Claflin University will host its annual United Negro College Fund Campaign Community, Business, Industry and Friends Kickoff Luncheon on Friday, May 3, at noon. The luncheon, which helps to raise money for student scholarships, will be held in the auxiliary gym of the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Complex.
The luncheon will feature presentations from two UNCF scholars who will share how scholarships from UNCF has helped them during their time at Claflin. Individuals and groups will also be honored with the Sustained Leadership Giving Award for their contributions to UNCF.

The inaugural Iris D. Bomar Meritorious Service Award will be awarded posthumously to Barbara C. Moore, a former associate vice president of Institutional Advancement, during the luncheon. The award, named in honor of past UNCF Campus Campaign Coordinator and former associate vice president of Institutional Advancement Dr. Iris D. Bomar, recognizes individuals whose efforts have been defined by persistence, effectiveness,  and enthusiasm for the cause of ensuring that all students have equal access to excellent education. Moore's daughter, Walletta T. Moore-Johnson, will accept the award on behalf of her mother.
