A Message from the President
Sep 17, 2021
Dear Claflin Family,
I want to express my appreciation for your cooperation in adhering to the COVID-19 protocols that have been established to ensure the campus would be a safe environment for in-person instruction and normal residential activities for the fall semester. As a result, COVID-19 infections at the University have been relatively low in comparison to institutions elsewhere.
Though we have done well, there has been an alarming surge of infections in South Carolina since the start of the fall semester based on daily DHEC reports. Given this concerning development and following recommended guidelines from local, state, and federal health officials, it is necessary that we take additional measures to minimize the potential of increased infections on campus.
Homecoming is usually a time for celebration and reconnecting with old friends. We look forward to hosting a safe and exciting homecoming on campus. To do so, everyone will be required to be vaccinated and provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours to attend homecoming events. There will be more information forthcoming about tickets and entry.
The administration believes our best defense against the virus is to require face coverings and full vaccination for students, faculty, and staff. Therefore, I am announcing that, beginning January 2022, a COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all students to attend the university and a condition of employment for all faculty and staff. Medical and religious exemptions will be reviewed.
There are weekly vaccinations clinics on campus sponsored by our external partners for our students, faculty and staff to get inoculated. Both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are available. Also, you can take advantage of the opportunity to be vaccinated at the Student Health Center and upload your vaccination card here.
As we have stated on numerous occasions, it is our top priority and commitment to maintain the health and safety of the campus. It is an obligation and responsibility that we do not take lightly.
Thank you again for your understanding and doing your part to ensure Claflin University not just survives this global pandemic, but we thrive.
Peace and Blessings,
Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack
President
