This special event is held each year during Women's History Month.

"Moving Forward Together!  Women Educating and Inspiring Generations" is the national theme for this year's Women's History Month observance.
It recognizes the influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership.

This year's honorees are Dr. Debora Brunson, chairwoman of the Orangeburg County School District School Board; Mrs. Ruby Edwards, educator and community advocate; Dr. Yvonne Johnson, assistant professor of education at South Carolina State University; Mrs. Gwendolyn Phillips, former director of TRIO Programs at Claflin University; Dr. Peggy Ratliff, professor and chair of the Department of English and acting chair of the Department of Mass Communications at Claflin University; and Dr. Verlie Tisdale, vice president for academic programs and the acting dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Claflin University.

WISTV Columbia's Judy Gatson will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.  Gatson is an award-winning journalist who has reported on and anchored live coverage from some of the biggest stories around the state since joining WISTV in November 1995.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the First Lady's Hats and Gloves Tea Endowed Scholarship Fund, which supports academically gifted, talented, and deserving young women matriculating at Claflin University.

In addition to uplifting messages and the insightful perspectives of the honorees, guests will be treated to a delightful assortment of flavored teas and a sumptuous buffet with a variety of food options.  Another much-anticipated highlight of the luncheon will be the "Hat-ti-tude Contest."  Participants will compete for prizes while modeling hats of various shapes and sizes with styles ranging from the "lavishly adorned "to "understated glamorous."

"It is my hope that you leave feeling empowered, inspired, and moved to action as we honor women of exemplary courage and extraordinary success, while also recognizing the accomplishments of the next generation of visionary leaders,” said Claflin First Lady LaKisha Warmack.
