Claflin University proudly celebrates Dr. Friggita Johnson, assistant professor of education, for being named Claflin’s recipient of the 2026 Excellence in Teaching Award presented by the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU).

The award recognizes outstanding faculty members across South Carolina whose dedication to teaching, mentorship, and student success makes a lasting impact on their campuses.

Dr. Johnson has presented at numerous international and national conferences and has contributed to educational research through publications and professional review work in the field of special education.

“We are proud to recognize these faculty members for the meaningful role they play in shaping their students’ futures and strengthening our state,” said Robert Lloyd, president and CEO of SCICU.

The annual SCICU Excellence in Teaching Awards Dinner was held April 21 and honored one faculty member from each of SCICU’s 20 member institutions.
